Sad news, the media has forced another conservative out of the race.

Congressman Duncan Hunter returns to San Diego tonight, Saturday January 19, 2008 Media Opportunity at 8:00 PM (PST) Broadway Pier at the end of Broadway St, San Diego

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 19, 2008

San Diego, Calif.
We started this campaign a year ago right here, in San Diego Harbor, against the backdrop of American Naval power. We launched a campaign emphasizing a strong national defense, enforceable borders and restoring the industrial base of America. Today we end this campaign. The Nevada caucuses reflecting only 2% of the vote for me. I ran the campaign exactly the way I wanted to, and at this point not being able to gain traction in conservative states of Nevada and South Carolina, it's time to allow our volunteers and supporters to focus on the campaigns that remain viable. It's time for me to gear up for 2008's defense bill that will be put together over the coming weeks. There is work to be done in the areas of troop protection and new capabilities to be deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. And over the horizon, the emergence of Communist China as a military super power will require a new emphasis on U.S. capabilities in undersea warfare, space, and long range air-power. The best way to maintain a new era of peace is for the U.S. to remain strong. Over the coming year I will endeavor to help craft a defense bill that meets the new security challenges.

Since our campaign began over 200,000 additional manufacturing jobs have been lost. 1.8 million jobs have left the U.S. for China. This fracturing of the U.S. industrial base is a long term threat to America. I hope that the remaining candidates will recognize it and address it. As the senior Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, I will seek to address it. Only hours ago a border patrolman was killed in the California Desert. This tragedy emphasizes more than ever the compelling case for the completion of the border fence. Since I wrote the bill that mandates 854 miles of double border fence only a few miles have been constructed. Over the next year in Congress I will do everything in my power to get that fence built. Finally, for Lynn and me, the campaign over the last year has shown us this: America is a wonderful country. Our people have great character and goodness, and the meeting of new friends has enriched our lives. The failure of our campaign to gain traction is mine and mine alone. But we have driven the issues of national security, the border fence, the emergence of China and the need to reverse bad trade policy. Because of that, this campaign has been very worthwhile, and for the Hunter family, a lot of fun. To our friends and supporters and volunteers: many thanks. And now it's time for me to focus on developing a 2008 defense bill that serves our troops and our nation. Thanks, and God Bless America. Duncan Hunter

Human Error Delayed Opening of Voting Machines in Some Horry County Precincts
http://www.scvotes.org/2008/01/19/human_error_delayed_opening_of_voting_machines_in_some_horry_county_precincts

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - January 19, 2008

COLUMBIA, SC-Voting machines are now available to voters in all 118 Horry County precincts. Some voters cast paper ballots today in 15-20 precincts because voting machines were not ready to accept votes. This issue was due to a human error in preparing the machines for the primary.

Before every election, all voting machines are tested to make sure they are operating correctly. One way this is done is by casting test votes on the machine to be sure it is recording them accurately. The final step in this process is to perform a “clear and test” procedure. This resets the test votes recorded on the machine to zero. Without performing this measure, the voting system will not allow machines to be opened for voting on election day. Horry County voting machine technicians worked throughout the morning and early afternoon to visit these affected precincts and perform this procedure.

South Carolina’s voting system has performed today as it was designed to perform. As with any system, its performance is dependent on election officials following proper operating procedures. The State Election Commission will continue to improve our education and training of election officials throughout the state in an effort to improve the conduct of elections.

So, South Carolina is apparently fine with amnesty for illegal aliens.

McCain, if he wins the presidency, will sell us out. Bet on it.

This is so disappointing.

I can’t believe anyone is dumb enough to vote for McCain in the Republican primary, especially after he tried to shove his illegal amnesty legislation down America’s throats last summer (WHICH HE WROTE!!!). Plus he was AGAINST the Bush tax cuts, plus he assaulted the 1st Amendment right to free speech with his disasterous McCain-Feingold legislation. The man is consistently WRONG on a host of issues.

I’m very, very sorry to write this, but unless America snaps to very quickly, I believe John McCain will be the next President of the United States.

If it comes down between him and Hillary in the general election, I’ll have to put a bag over my head, hold my nose, and vote for the guy. Actually, in a contest between anybody and Hillary, I’ll have to vote for the “anybody else” candidate.

We may very well have to get a RINO like McCain in the Oval office before we can get another man with the godly, strong, conservative principles of Ronald Reagan.

WAKE UP AMERICA! JOHN MCCAIN IS NO CONSERVATIVE!!!

If Thompson doesn't get the nod, that would be a disaster. I might hold my nose and vote for Huck, but I might not, I haven't decided yet. I will hold my nose and vote for Rudy if he gets it. Romney's governing record and what he's said on record don't match up, so he's an unknown quantity to me, but I'll take unknown over a dem. I will not vote for McCain under any circumstances whatsoever.
