So would you have voted for Fred if the roles were reversed? Or would you stay loyal to Mitt?

For discussion’s sake, let’s acknowledge that the bulk of the 3 million in service is lower ranking...which they are. We will call that 60%. That = 1,800,000.

Let’s also identify them as the younger cohort that enters the military, that is, from about 18-23 years of age. That represents 6 year groups. Divided equally that would be 300,000 per year entering service in the eligible younger cohort. More than 2/3 of that is male, but we’ll allow that 200,000 males are in the new cohort in all services each year. (The 2007 Army active duty recruiting goal was 80,000, so that tracks.)

Your numbers tell us that 2.1 million come of military age each year. Compared with the year group cohort of 200,000, that means that 10% enters the military.

For the Romney family that would mean that 1 of the 6 should have served, because the military is much smaller now that it was as early as 10 years ago when it was 750,000 troops instead of 450,000 that we have now. Obviously, in the Viet era is was considerably larger.

Of my 4 children, 4 have served.

In short, many American families are not pulling their fair share. Blue-blood and upper class families are even worse.

I think we’re learning one thing, tonite. Huckabee is a one-state candidate.

Can somebody direct me to the RAT debate thread?

&&&&

Are the Dems having a debate on the night of this primary so they can really stick it in the eye of the Michigan Dem party? What are they thinking? I wonder how many Michigan votes from dems will go to Romney in November because of the shabby way the party has treated them.

“The nutter got 10%...lord help us”

Probably ‘Rats trying to help Paul become viable as a 3rd party candidate.

I would be really interested in finding out how many of these Paulistinians are anti-war “ANSWER” types and “troofers”.

Hillary will win and get the delegates. If there race is close, there will be a big fight over allowing them.

That would be a delicious disenfranchisement of an entire host of democrat voters.

Dang. I just realized the donkey debate is tonight at the same time the polls close.

That’s a tough call...ought to be lots of fireworks between Hill & Obama.

And then there’s American Idol....

I need more tv’s!

Obama said since the MIch delegates did not count, and he did not want to against his Party’s rules, he had his name withdrawn from the list..I saw a copy of the Mich Rep and Dem ballots today at another thread and sure enough his name is not on the Dem list...

The state legislature sets the rules regarding open or closed primaries. Unfortunately, MI has a dem legislature. Also, if the situation were reversed and we had a strong, unopposed candidate, you can bet we would be voting the dem primary as spoilers. I think all states should have closed primaries. Let the parties nominate whom they will and then let them fight it out in the general.

see my post #363.

While 1% are currently serving, 10% of each year’s eligible group of males ends up serving. That would suggest that 10% or more of the nation’s males are veterans.

My experience says that’s true.

Wasn’t just a couple days ago, Fred Barnes was predicting McCain would win Michigan.

When is Fred Barnes ever right? Last summer he was predicting amnesty would pass overwhelmingly. That's probably why Fred supports McCain since he'd push for it even harder than Bush did.

First off getting shot down is a consequence of facing the enemy in the air, just like getting shot is a consequence of facing them on the battlefield.

He only lost one plane due to enemy fire. The others were due to his incompetence.

McCain's wounds were real and severe.

So were thousands of other American POWs, but most of them did not give up all the information they had in order to get preferential treatment from the cong.

Then he was put into brutal captivity, where he was again treated so badly he sustained permanant injury. His torture included hanging by the arms for so long that to this day he can't move them above his shoulders.

He is the only person who has said this. The other POWs do not concur. After he gave the cong all the information he could he was moved to better quarters.

As for your contention that he gave them all the classified information he could, even if true, so what.

SO WHAT He gave up information that could have put many other Americans at a greater risk.

McCain won: the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, a Bronze Star and the Purple Heart

His father was an Admiral. How else do you think he was able to continue to fly?

I knew John McCain when I lived in AZ. I know he is incompetent and is in NO way qualified to be CIC.

I hear enough about Obama living in Illinois. All of these local idiots drooling over there “hero with hope”. Mushy BS with no substance.

Hello,

Cripes, I don’t remember ever posting on the wrong thread before. But, I just did. Multitasking was never my strong suit, apparently, I can’t even “task” anymore.
