Wow! That’s her, indeed. I’m 47 and not enjoying the effects of ageing, however, that’s just awful.

My main concern right now is the downy woodpecker that just did a windowstrike. Poor thing’s just sitting there for the past half hour. Waaaay OT but does anyone know what I should do? My instinct tells me to let nature do its’ course, but dang, it’s going to -20 tonight.

Sorry all, I just can’t bear to look out my window. :(

Oh that's sad. I'm in Mpls. also. It's a cold one today. And I am very tired of the gray weather!

Hang a suet bar on a tree in your backyard. Downy woodpeckers are winter birds, if they liked the warm, they would migrate. But they do love the suet bars.

Personally, I’d let it in the garage or something as such. I’d not let it in the house, tho.

We have three big windows on the back of our house that birds fly into quite a bit. I always go out and pick them up in a towel and wrap them up and hold them securely in my lap for a while in the house so they’ll stay warm. I don’t let them go to sleep during that time; then in about half an hour or so, if they have survived, I take them back outside and open up the towel so they can fly away if they have come to enough that they feel like they can fly away (hint: they will fly away if they do feel well enough.) If not, then I take them back inside for a little while longer, then repeat the process until they’re able to fly away. (If I don’t do this, they will either freeze to death or the cat will get them.) Don’t let them get away from you inside your house!

Move him to where you can’t see him out the window?

(I know, I’m all heart here)...
