If I stood on a street in Montréal and said words like Câlisse (chalice), Tabernacle, Ostie (host), Crisse (Christ), Ciboire (wafer box; ciborium) etc., it would be like standing on a corner in New York and shouting out F**k you! S**thead! C**t! C**ksucker! Motherf**ker! A**hole! at passersby. Very, very offensive and crude, especially if used to describe the mother of the object of your abuse.
Maybe the reason the priest decided to sell the stuff off was that he got tired of the giggles from the boys in the back pews every time he touched something on the altar or called it by name.
Huh? Do the words express anger only, or are they slang for other words? (and I don’t want to know the specifics if they are.)
