But...it’s a discussion forum right? Don’t you want to hear other opinions, or should we all just write laudatory comments about Fred Thompson ad infinitum?

If you listen to Rush as all good conservatives do or at least should, he said , do not listen to the media about who is quitting and who should drop out at this point. We are just now beginning to start this long road to the elections. Hell, after Iowa, there were rumors the Hillary was or should drop out. Now you know that will never happen in a million years.

Discussion, yes. Making silly assertions isn't discussion.

I think you should keep writing the same canned lines that you have written in every discussion of Fred Thompson. The repeat lines make me think of the Bubba administration. If you repeat a lie often enough . . . All Republicans should aspire to be like the Clintons. No?

I don’t think that’s why you’re getting ripped. If you can provide some reasons why you think he won’t get elected, by all means do so. Too old? Too conservative? Too southern?

What discussion? You just throw out a stupid 1-liner "he has no chance in the general" with NOTHING to back it up. Then you say later that the liberals really, really want the WH. No kidding? And they'll want it a lot, lot more if Fred is the nominee than if one of the other GOPs is the candidate? Give me a break!

You don't think there's a HUGE number of people that want to keep Hillary out of the WH?

We want to hear your opinions, but they should be based on something.

Frankly, at this point I am not interested in presumed electability. it is 1) a subjective feeling, 2) based on insufficient data - we do not even know the Dem nominee yet.

Let's concentrate on the best nominee for the needs of the country based on principles, positions, past actions, and substantive proposals (not a beauty contest).

When that is done, then we will be in position to defeat the opposition. If we do not, we at least did what was best for the country, and can sleep at night about it.

Electability puts the discussion on a beauty contest - American idol footing. It is the wrong basis. The way conservatives and republicans really win is ideas. Electing a liberal - closet Dem as president whether he has an R or a D behind his name is a meaningless success.

One thing that you probably have noticed about a lot of Freepers, is the crowd control aspect. No peripheral vision.

Certainly, so don’t shut up. But do indeed think.

Thompson has about as good a chance as anyone. As do all the Dem candidates against each other, though I think they are being the most cannabalistic of the two parties.
