It all doesn't matter. The GOP simply does not have the money or numbers to defeat the Democrats. Even Ron Paul, who is bringing in newcomers and independents to his campaign, is getting killed by independents going to Obama. All of the GOP candidates besides Paul and Hunter represent the same status-quo socialism, the same nibbling on the edges.

Agreed. The GOP situation is dire. I think the question really is, does the GOP want to go down with a conservative candidate, setting the cause back years, or go down with a liberal candidate, and set up a rallying cry for 2012?
