Can you imagine how nauseating a McCain-Huckabee ticket would be?

If it weren’t for Supreme Court appointments, would almost be worth letting PIAPS win in November and rebuilding the party for the 2010 midterms.

Why is there so much dismissal of Romney?

He’s the only 1 holding steady (so far). He’s the only 1 at least consistently 2nd, while the others are all over the board.

Thompson did admit that was a mistake, the other two never did.

Ohhhhh well now ... that makes it much better!
IIRC, he only said the Issue Ad add-on was a mistake, not the entire bill.

This trend of doing whatever the heck you dang well please, then APOLOGIZE for it and all is forgiven, has grown very old and tiresome!

BTW, he DEFENDED that abortion of a bill in August, 2003.

Fred amicus brief

You'd rather have someone who is rich and tries to buy elections. Gotcha! LOL

And I love the sound of name-callers who can't stand basic analysis. Tell me, since you "predicted" this, did you also predict Fred's collapse?

And I'm not at all saying Romney is "toast." I think by the time of the convention, NO ONE will have it sewn up, but that McCain and Huck will have the most delegates, Romney and Rudy tied at #3/4.

Really? Where did you see that? BTW, if Huck wins SC and comes in #2 in MI, you better be a “Rudy guy,” because he may be all that stands between Huck and the nomination. But if Rudy siphons off enough wins for force a 4-way convention, there is hope.

I’m not so sure on Huck. I didn’t think he’d so that well in NH, and he’s now doing pretty well in FL.

Which is why, given a choice, I would choose Hunter over Thompson.

I told you, ask Jim Robinson. He’ll tell you it’s true. The facts are sometimes a little hard to find on the internet. But the fact that John McCain was brought up before the Congressional ethics committee on charges of having raped the wife of another former POW are a matter of Congressional record. Dig a little deeper.

Like I said, nothing came of the charges because McCain claimed that the woman was drunk and initiated the sex, but the woman was a non-drinker, didn’t touch alcohol or drugs.

I’m not going to jump the gun. The states that have had primaries/Caucasus, whatever, thus far, are pretty much meaningless when looking at the entire country and election histories. I won’t project, will wait and see what plays out after Super Tuesday.

If ANY of those 4, Huck, Myth, McQueen, Rooty, win the nomination, I would have to write in. Just can’t help the GOP commit suicide.

And you left off my statement condemning the purchase of elections.

Why do you think it is better that a man receive significant contributions from people as opposed to being self-funded?

Do you fail to see a connection between campaign contributions and the ability to control the candidate?

You never posted any such thing to me.

The democratic election process works better when all citizens are involved. That includes monetary contributions. Name me the last POTUS in recent history who self funded his campaign and won the election.

This is all a moot point, however. Romney is not gonna win the nomination. Thank God.

I can’t think of a presidential candidate. Unfortunately, we have a system that generally requires politicians to rely on contributions from others to make it through.

In my view, that requirement (not legal but very real) is bad, as it prevents the common citizen from seeking office.

Why is it wrong for a man to pay for his own candidacy?

Sounds like a conservative ideal to me (as opposed to asking for handouts).

You run McCain, color this life long Conservative activist out for the season no matter who the Dems run

I'm forced to agree.

I used to be very supportive of John McCain. How he has conducted himself with CFR, the Gang of 14 agreement re: federal judges, the Bush Tax cuts, global warming, drilling in ANWR, etc, etc is not enough to overcome his position on the WOT. I had made up my mind several months ago that if McCain wins the Republican nomination, I will not cast my vote for him. It pains me to say that.

Nobody is toast just yet.

see this table courtesy of
http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P08/  Larger states will change the dynamic, of course, but now a few good wins from Thompson can get him up there. And Romney is certainly far from being a "toast"

TheGreenPapers.com will be tracking delegate counts, in both Major Parties, as both "Soft" (here assuming that relevant delegations will remain sanctioned into the respective National Conventions [that is: with no delegates to be seated at the Democratic National Convention and with but half the originally allocated delegates to be seated at the Republican National Convention]) and as "Alternative" (here assuming that the full delegation of an affected jurisdiction- as originally allocated before being sanctioned- is eventually to be seated [that is, at some point before the Conventions, sanctions will be lifted]) from now until each Major Party's respective National Convention convenes or until no delegation is any longer sanctioned, if this should occur prior to the Conventions.

>>>>>I can’t think of a presidential candidate.

And for good reason. Never been one.

>>>>>Unfortunately, we have a system that generally requires politicians to rely on contributions from others to make it through.

That is part of the democratic process. A candidate can receive individual contributions, matching taxpayer contributions or use their own cash.

>>>>>Why is it wrong for a man to pay for his own candidacy?

This is America. If you want to use your own money to fund a run at political office, you can. That doesn't guarantee people will vote for you.

>>>>>Sounds like a conservative ideal to me (as opposed to asking for handouts).

Campaigning for political contributions is a time honored part of the American way. Its not a hand out. People donate on a voluntary basis. No one is forced to give a candidate money. LOL

Thanks. Guess we shouldn’t throw the cold water of reality on some people’s celebrations.
