WND is a fringe publication IMO. They have an obvious agenda and blur the lines between news and ‘special offers’.

That said there is no reason to use SWAT unless there is imminent threat to a person or excessive danger to the police officer. From the story it sounds to me like the family was reasonable and the jackbooted thugs were out of control. In this case the thugs arent the swat team, its the judge and the child welfare system.

Same story, same apparent facts, in the Denver Post by the AP no less.

There is one difference.

Garfield County sheriff's spokeswoman Tanny McGinnis said two deputies were first sent to notify Shiflett of a court order for his son's medical treatment and that Shiflett did not comply..

And that is, I guess, "more to the story", just not much more.
