I am having trouble getting past the swelling on McCain's left cheek.

He's had melanoma surgery just above that and a chunk was taken out. Makes it look swollen because of the depression above it. JMHO.

The area where one of the biopsies was taken is visible in this August 13, 2000 photo.

He likely had radiation to that area, which has affected the nearby parotid gland.
