He doesn’t appeal to me but it is not unlike the Huckabee, Edwards appeal. It starts with pretty stories and casting yourself as the ally of the common man against the great big mean world.

Come on, what the heck is his appeal? Please enlighten me.Most diehard Republicans I know say they could at least stomach seeing Obama on TV for the next 4 years. OTOH, the thought of Hillary's grating voice, her plastic affect, and the general sliminess of Her Highness makes even the most lukewarm Republican want to crawl across ground glass to vote against her (with a few notable exceptions, mostly found on this website, who seem to think that a Hillary would "teach the Republicans a lesson").

Hussein Obama has a very good inspirational "keep hope alive" stump speech. This is what has lots of Dems voting for him.

Wallace-Wells mentions in Rolling Stone:
There is an amazingly candid moment in Obamas autobiography when he writes of his childhood discomfort at the way his mother would sexualize African-American men. "More than once," he recalls, "my mother would point out Harry Belafonte is the best-looking man on the planet." What the focus groups his advisers conducted revealed was that Obamas political career now depends, in some measure, upon a tamer version of this same feeling, on the complicated dynamics of how white women respond to a charismatic black man.
Early in his run for the U.S. Senate in 2004, Obamas pollsters discovered that women loved him,
especially nice white ladies who like personalities more than politics and definitely dont like political arguments.

He has appeal because he is a novelty !
Americans have always been fascinated by novelty, ask P.T. Barnum, the producers, directors writers of reality TV shows!
