BELGRADE: The European Union must choose between signing an accord with Serbia or deploying a mission to Kosovo as a prelude to an independence declaration by the breakaway province, Serbia's prime minister said on Thursday.
In a written statement, Vojislav Kostunica said that when EU foreign ministers met on January 28, the bloc would have to choose "whether it wants a whole... Serbia as a partner, or it wants to create a 'quasi state' on Serb territory".
"The EU must choose... whether it will sign a Stabilisation and Association Agreement with Serbia or, under United States pressure, send a mission to implement (a plan for) supervised independence of Kosovo, snatching part of Serbia's territory."
Kosovo is expected to declare independence early this year. Thursday's statement echoes a Kostunica-sponsored parliament resolution that Serbia would shun offers of EU membership if the bloc recognises Kosovo as an independent state.
Kostunica indicated that instead of signing the agreement -- a first step towards EU membership -- Serbia might take a step back. If the EU took the "illegal decision" to send a mission to Kosovo, it would effectively be making "null and void" the initialling of the accord in December, he said.

Why don’t the Anti-EU *(and frankly becuase NATO has changed since the Cold-War days Anti-NATO) forces form their own alliance: I would!
And you are just an Albanian troll...
Christian alliance on Balkans? Serbia-Greece-Bulgaria-Romania?
Niiiiice...
:)
I'd expect to see that just about the time Serbians decide as a group that they want to be bombed by their former allies again.
I also expect that the 5 or 6% of Kosovo's population that remains Serbian/Christian will soon be labeled as foreign agents and put under restrictions by the EU.
This time I only hope Jorge is smart enough to make the Germans do their own dirty work.
The bottom line is this, Clinton allowed the USA get in this quagmire and it is a real quagmire, if you know a liberal and that person has a hard time understanding a (quagmire) have him or she look at Kosovo.
Now! It will be a cold day in hell before the Christian Serbs give up their land. Russia will back the Serbs all the way! The real sad part about the entire travesty is; the Muslims at one time were Christians and this is the remnants of the Ottoman Empire.
A lot of money has flowed from the Middle East to fund this campaign of hate against the Serbs. Lies were told against the Serbs in Clintons little war; I never saw genocide against the Muslims no more so than I saw genocide against the Serbs.
The USA needs to stay out of the Serbs life. We have NO business trying to aid and abate the Muslims in their quest to steal Christian Land. I am a Christian and it saddens me to see the country I love trying to aid the same ideology that killed 3000 people in the World Trade Buildings and killed the American Soldiers trying to liberate the Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan.
And Poland and Czech!~ (and possibly Ukr). oh and while we’re at it why not include Estonia, Latvia, Lith...?
joebuck ~ I have studied and educated myself in this area substantially and I don't understand US policy objectives in the the area any more than Wolfdog does. Why don't you just explain it to all us dummies. Just a suggestion.
When you do, could you ping me? I'd love to see a rational explanation!
Yeah. I know a woman whose ancestors all came from what is now Slovenia. She describes herself as “Pure Blooded Austrian”...
That's laughable coming from someone who needs to educate himself on just about everything, pancakes.
Check out that moron hiding in your mirror, pancakes.
200 destroyed Christian churches and monasteries in Kosovo can’t be blamed on the Serbs, Dhimmi.
“You could take the time to educate youreslf to the point where you do understand US policy.
Just a suggestion.”
Thank you for that smart-ass comment which is utterly devoid of any contributing value to this thread. I am glad that when someone says ‘I don’t understand why the US does this’ we have self-appointed posters like yourself to avoid actually answering the question or providing a single iota of information, you simply suggest the poster go educate themselves.
You are a good argument for FR to implement an ignore list ability.
We'll do well as a country with intellectual go-getters such as yourself.
Speaking of ignorance, you are free to ignore my posts by not responding.
You could use the saved time to, oh, I don't know, read up on the subject.
Just a thought.
Correct, you are on permanent ignore (at least until I forget your name). Troll away, you have gotten some other attention on this thread as well.
Thanks for your helpful and informative reply.
You're asking for the impossible. (See Kenneth Arrow's impossibility theorem.)
I know.
;^)
Do me a favor and get down off your high horse. Thanks.
Canuck jihadi monkey to the rescue.
