Now I'm going to really confuse you.

I believe that Mormonism IS a cult according to the criteria described in the book mentioned earlier on this thread, but I would have no problem voting for a Mormon for POTUS if he were a conservative.

I loved Rick Warren's book and have gone through two extended studies of it in my Sunday School class. I adore Joel Osteen and listen to or record him every Sunday and I have even been to see him in person.

I am a very active member of a mainline Methodist Church, but I was raised a Presbyterian minister's daughter. I have many beliefs that you might refer to as fundamentalist and I very much enjoy Bible studies, particularly those by Beth Moore.

I have a Masters Degree in Biology and have been teaching both Biology and Medical Laboratory Technology for over 20 years, but I do not believe that Global Warming is anything other than a natural phenomenon that man has no power to cause or to stop were it really the crisis that Al Gore claims it is. I do not agree with Rick Warren on this issue, and I have never even heard Joel mention it at all.

At the same time, I believe that were Huckabee to become the GOP nominee for POTUS, it would be a disaster! He is NOT a conservative and his views on immigration and the WOT alone should disqualify him in any thinking person's mind for the office of president. He is the worst of both worlds - he might allow an unqualified Dem to win the WH, but he would also be a Republican version of Jimmy Carter were he to be elected POTUS. We can NOT afford to make such a mistake at this critical point in the history of our country just because one man is able to fool politically uniformed evangelical Christians into voting for him.

From reports on TV it looks like if you take away self-professed evangelicals Huck was not very successful. I wonder what the percentage of evangelicals is nationwide. I doubt more than 20%. I bet in the big electoral states it is less than 10%. I wonder what percent of the MSM is evangelicals.

“just because one man is able to fool politically uniformed evangelical Christians into voting for him”

And how is it that they are so uninformed? Why did they not do their research? Is it because they are one issue only candidates who base their vote on religious background only? Methinks it is so. And the Huckster thinks just like Rick Warren does, with lots of liberal philosophy mixed in. Those meany rich people aren’t doing enough for the poor folk of the world (although we give more to charity than any other country does). And we can’t be mean to those poor illegal aliens swarming over our border. Why, they just want our jobs after all. And we must do something about that bad, bad, caused by ourselves global warming. That’s the Huckster (and Warren) in a nutshell. Don’t care how much education some evangelicals have. If they like and back that kind of liberal thinking then they really aren’t smart in any sense of the word. They are reacting to feelings over common sense and rational thinking. Just like the Dems.

Just like George Bush (all compassion, very little conservative) and Hillary Clinton, both Methodists. Hmmmm,...
