Two days before the Iowa caucuses day 15 of his 17-day "hands down" bus tour former senator Fred Thompson's campaign bus stood motionless in the snowy parking lot of a West Des Moines motel, across from a movie theater and a suburban strip mall.
Thompson's campaign scheduled only one event for New Year's Day, a meet-and-greet at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, about an hour outside Des Moines. Thompson, R-Tenn., shunned the bus, emblazoned with his picture, for the relative comfort of a black Chevrolet Suburban.
(snip)
Thompson has staked his campaign's prospects to Iowa. In seeking to jump-start his campaign last month, he promised to crisscross the Hawkeye State with visits to 50 cities and towns in 17 days aboard his new campaign bus.

You must not have seen him on FOX this a.m. giving it right back to Jane Skinner who was asking really silly questions. He was spot on and looked great!
I suspect Fred is going to do much better in Iowa tomorrow than many on FR and in the MSM think. I'm thinking a mini-Huckimplosion, with at least half of the Huck's support going to Fred. All else remaining the same per the latest polling, this would give Romney the win at 30%, Fred a close second at 27%, and McCain and Huckabee fighting it out for a distant third at around 14-15%, not counting the undecideds, of course.
Cheap shot. I’m not surprised at all.
My condolences.
Maybe this is why?
Paul has a libertarian appeal, especially since running as a Libertarian a couple decades ago. Paul also has gained some support from the anti war left who thinks the demoRats have not delivered on their promise of bringing the troops home.
My guess is that his money is mostly coming from the far left.
Hey I love the idea of abolishing the IRS. But I don’t think a complete overhaul of government is possible, just by stopping the funding. I see a picture of chaos, and the American people will be the ones who suffer because of the chaos.
I think Paul would be more inclined to launch a 3rd party candidacy. With his anti war stand, he would pull more left away from the demoRats than he would pulling away conservatives from the right. With the slim margins of the past few presidential elections, a Paul 3rd party candidacy would do more damage to the DemoRats in the final vote tally. At least that is what I envision. But who am I? And what do I know?
I would hope that Fox News would have it -— but it’s somewhere that I can’t find....searching the Fox News website is not a strong point of mine.
Fred is having trouble in his battle with Fox News.
That is the main mistake his campaign has made...fighting Fox. My guess is, the average Fox viewer would be a Thompson supporter if they KNEW more about him.
Fox will go with the flow, eventually. A strong showing in Iowa might change their coverage and voiced opinions about Fred.
It is sad that a great man like Hunter has such an abrasive and irritating supporter such as yourself.
LLS
Is that the “royal we”, dear? Or has the psychosis spread to the mouse in your pocket?
I'm not thrilled with Mitt, but I'd probably end up going with him if Fred drops. Mainly to stop the other more liberal guys and since Duncan is impossible to win and with supporters like pissant...he just turns me off from even considering duncan.
Me too. The problem is things started so early and until Fred announced it looked like we weren't going to have a viable conservative in the race. I remember back in 2000 when W. first announced and there were a bunch of Freepers who thought he was being given the nomination...and then the flack over 'Compassionate Conservative' but it was never as nasty as it was this time around.
LOL! A week of being that ‘Low Key’ and I think I’d be dead.
Dude, Duncans a great guy...and if he shows a better standing after tomorrow I might change my tune,
How many times has a fast talking salesman sold something the purchaser regretted buying later?
Just buy and I will promise you a lifetime of wigits.
Fred is not tired. He is just compared to rock stars and trendy breck bois and gurls. Life in the fast lane is not his style and he isn’t attempting to be someone he isn’t comfortable with being.
that was a decision FOX made...not Fred. They're so deep in the tank for Guilliani they haven't seen the sun shine for months.
Gotta tell ya, I’m depressed about how poorly Thompson is doing. There’s no one else I wanted to vote for.
So many here are agreeing with the MSM that Thompson got into the race “so late” but in actuality the others all started way too early. Thompson got into the race at the traditional time to do so.
I totally agree with you in regard to the level of nastiness here in comparison to 2000...and at that time I found the nastiness to b overboard, but it was tame in comparison to what I have been seeing for the past 6+ months.
You are correct. Today, he is in NH. In Nevada the last few days prior.
Your opinion is so depressing to a student of American politics. You say you are depressed about Fred’s showing before a single votes has been cast. NO matter who your candidate is, if you are serious about supporting him you need to be out talking to friends and neighbors, volunteering time and writing the campaign with your thoughts and views. Government can only be FOR the people if it has the CONTRIBUTION of the people.
And, no, posting on FR does not qualify as active support. That’s just noise, however comforting.
