From the article: “I don’t think that I could see someone who is a member of a faith so contrary to my faith having my support,” said Haskins, a graduate of Bob Jones University, the Christian fundamentalist college. Haskins is backing Sen. John McCain of Arizona.” This is from Feb 2, 2007.
I don’t know who Gloria is backing now, but when Bob Jones III came out for Romney this fall, Greenville was in all a tizzy about it. I know alot of BJU grads rethought who they were going to vote for after this. There are Romney signs all over the upstate of SC. Most of your upstate voters are Protestant in nature - Baptist, Pentecostal, Presbyterian and I would say majority of them are probably going to vote for Romney because of his morals, not religion. Just as alot of people in the Charleston area are Catholic and Episcopal and that is why Rudy is polling better there. That all being said, I just cannot see Gloria or Cynthia for that matter, stooping this low on a dirty political trick. I guess I could be wrong, but I really believe this was done either by the Dems or Republican political outsider from either Huckabee or Ron Paul's campaigns. Ron Paul has such a radical following here that would be my first guess - he has the money too.
