Huckabee's Tax Hiking Record

Washington – Yesterday, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked Mike Huckabee to respond to Club for Growth President Pat Toomey’s op-ed on National Review Online, but Huckabee had no defense for his many tax hikes and liberal record.

Instead, Huckabee bloviated about pheasant hunting and called himself an “authentic conservative,” but didn’t explain how an “authentic conservative” could have supported or raised as many tax hikes as he did as Governor of Arkansas. These include:

“No doubt, Huckabee is an engaging speaker, but even the most gifted politician can’t talk his way out of the laundry list of tax hikes Mike Huckabee is carrying around,” said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. “Sooner or later, Mike Huckabee is going to have to answer for his liberal tax-and-spend record, and humorous one-liners and half-truths won’t cut it. The American people deserve honest answers, not a stand-up routine.”

Never apologize for exposing any segment of Rudy McRombee.

I can’t see raising taxes as a way to prosperity. Huckabee believes in big government.

Ahmadinejad also likes Huckabee.

Earlier today FoxNews mentioned on TV that official Iran media, run by the government was very positive about Huckabee — that should tell you something.

I searched, but not a word about it in the MSM, even at FoxNews. I guess they don’t really want us to know that.

Huckabee thinks that talking nicely to Ahmadinejad is all that’s necessary. Remember, Huckabee condemned Bush’ “bunker mentality” and apologized to Pakistan for Butto’s assassination — he seems to be the member of the “it’s all the fault of the US” club.

Huckabee has surged because he won a couple of debates and he’s got evangelical support. If a quick rise can happen to the liberal pro-life evangelical Huckster, it can happen to the conservative pro-life evangelical Hunter.

According to Intrade, the winner of the December 12th GOP debate was... Duncan Hunter.

“Governor Huckabee did not raise spending by 50% as alleged by Club for Growth.net. With respect to the spending that the Governor had under his control, not federal pass-throughs and programs strictly controlled by the Democrat legislature, spending rose about six-tenths of one percent a year during his ten-and-a-half year tenure. In Arkansas , over 90% of the state general revenue budget is spent on three things: education, Medicaid, and prisons. So even if the state entirely eliminated everything else but those three, it would save less than 10% of the budget. Despite these limitations, the Governor still managed to enact budget cuts.”

I am quoting someone from AR shared about the Tax issue in AR while Mike Huckabee was governor.

“I have several kids in my mostly working class family who would never get medical care if not for ARKids first. They certainly couldn’t afford private schools, so when I see them bashing Huckabee for being a “tax and spend” liberal for his support and promotion of these things, it makes me shudder. How far removed from the reality most of us occupy do you have to be to condemn these things?”

Democratic Governor Endorses Mike Huckabee

Instead we have conservatives lining up behind Mike Huckabee because he agrees with them on two issues - gay marriage and abortion - neither of which the president can do much about. And all the while they ignore his liberal history as governor of Arkansas. If Huckabee is a real conservative, explain this: Since he's running in the Republican primaries for president, don't expect Mike Huckabee to be advertising the strong endorsement he just got from Ted Strickland, Ohio's Democratic governor.

It seems Mr. Strickland, who typically racked up a 95% rating from the liberal Americans for Democratic Action during his 16 years in Congress, has discovered a kindred spirit in Mr. Huckabee. He told the Cincinnati Enquirer last Sunday that Mr. Huckabee is a "combination of conservative views in some ways, but very, almost liberal views in other ways." Mr. Strickland concluded: "Of all the Republican candidates, Mr. Huckabee would be my personal choice."

NOW,,, THERE SHOULD BE NOT DOUBT IN YOUR MIND....HUCKABEE IS LOVED BY DEMOCRATS.

God save us if he is actually nominated by the Republican party, or should I say "former" Republican party ..if that actually occurs.

YOUR CHOICE                           This                         OR                                   This.

NEITHER IS A PRETTY PICTURE

I would rather vote for a Democrat than that....more government involvement...amnesty pushing... foreign affairs ignorant......Bush bashing....high taxing....parole giving...credential lying.....preacher hick from Arkansas. That’s about it (sure I missed something)

Karl Rove might be right when he said to get ready for a Democratic era in the White House. A vote for Huckabee is a vote for a Democrat, no matter which party wins.

Instead, Huckabee bloviated about pheasant hunting and called himself an “authentic conservative,” but didn’t explain how an “authentic conservative” could have supported or raised as many tax hikes as he did as Governor of Arkansas. These include:

Sales Tax, 1996 (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 11/07/96)
Gas and Diesel Fuel Taxes, 1999 (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 04/02/99, 04/25/99)
Sales Tax, 2000 (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 09/25/02)
Cigarette Tax, 2001 (Associated Press, 04/02/01)
Nursing Home Bed Tax, 2001 (Associated Press, 06/25/01)
Sales Tax, 2002 (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 11/15/02)
Income Surcharge Tax, 2003 (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 10/09/07)
Tobacco Tax, 2003 (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 10/09/07)
Internet Taxes, 2004 (Bond Buyer, 02/24/04)

Huck is a liberal running as a conservative. Don’t be taken in by his crap.

WAKE UP PEOPLE...HE’S A PREACHER......not a President.

I won’t vote for anything other than a true conservative , ever. I’ll just stay home and watch the Republican party self destruct.

For some of those taxes, Huckabee believes in fixing our roads. Which is actually sound investment compared to what the fed dole money into.
