Thompson sees 'bigger picture' in Bhutto slaying-'This is a war, a clash of civilizations

Reacting to the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson told WND, "This is a war, a clash of civilizations." Thompson, commenting at the FAIR talk radio row in Des Moines, Iowa, said he suspected al-Qaida was responsible for the attack.

"The chance that a secular woman had a possibility of ascending to power in Pakistan drove the more radical Islamic elements in the country to violence," Thompson said.

The former Tennessee senator said the Bhutto assassination was "part of a much larger picture."

"This is an international war we are engaged in," he emphasized. "Bhutto's assassination is not a law enforcement matter. This is a global conflict, and al-Qaida wants to bring Western civilization to its knees."

I MAY have heard a promo saying Fred was going to be on Hannity’s radio show today, with Sean’s guest host?

No Hannity thread today. Have you heard anything?

Wouldn’t want to miss it.

I’m a Fred guy. But I’ll tell you what - and I can’t BELIEVE I find myself typing this.....

After watching all these other goofs for the past 6 months, I now feel far more comfortable with Guiliani that I do with Mitt, McCain, and CERTAINLY the Huckster.

Someone told me I can get banned for saying that. I hope that isn’t the case, and Guiliani sure isn’t my idea of the perfect candidate. But if Fred can’t make it, I’ve concluded Rudy is bar far the lesser of the remainint evils.

Hank (ducking)

...9 million. You think ALL Americans will get the message then?

Yes, I do. See if you can follow my rationale here. With the flow of illegal immegrants through our rather porous borders, I'm surprized that Al Quaida has not already succeeded in detonating several nuclear devices at or near the center of large urban areas at near simultaneous periods. They will probably choose high density (population) targets like New York, Chicago, Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Atlanta, San Francisco, etc. and they will attempt several attacks at once. I've heard the number 11 mentioned. Considering the fact that 3 out of 4 hijacked airliners succeeded in their mission goals on September 11, 2001, that's a 75% success rate. If they achieve 75% success rate with nuclear devices against 11 American cities, 9 million will be on the lower end of the spectrum.

Now, consider the fact that most of our Liberals and Socialists have chosen to pack themselves into these cities, a large number of Liberals are very liable to cease to exist in a blinding flash muttering the words, "Aw shi***" and of those who remain, I suspect a large percentage of them will have an equally blinding epiphany, "George Bush was Right all along!!!" (at least in regards to the Global War on Terror). Those who are left will, I think, find it very uncomfortable to espouse their stupid and idiotic (and at least one person has corrected me to include other concepts like "Un-American") comments in public.

Speaking of which, can anyone provide me a list of links directly refuting Michael Moore, the 9—11 truthers, and any other conspiracy nuts regarding 9-11? I promised someone (who believes the US government blew up the twin towers and the Pentagon) some info that will change her mind.

If Thompson is right about the ‘who’ this is a great response....If, however, he’s wrong...

It isn't really an assessment of blame, so even if Musharraf is found to be behind it, or complicit, it's still a good statement in that he clearly recognizes the nature of the threat we face.

Thank you for the info. I never heard that before. It could be a stretch but I guess it is appropriate. Oh ASA Vet. I slept for 1/2 of them since I was not born yet.

“It is ISLAM that want’s to destroy western civilisation.”

Can’t argue with that either - check my prior posts.

What is going on now is merely a temporal progression into modern times fo the invasions of the Holy Lands, North Africa, Iberia, France, southern Italy, Spain, Constantinople, Iran, the Balkans and Vienna by these savages.

Its merely a continuation of the raids by the Barbary corsairs carried out against western Europe and Christian powers in the Mediterranean.

As long as Islam is alive and thriving, western civilization is in danger of extinction - as well as non-Islamic eastern civilizations and all of sub-Saharan Africa.

Compared to what Huckabee and Richardson said about the assasination, Fred sounds like Thomas Jefferson.

He has mentioned it several times, but you’re not going to hear from the MSM, which now includes FOX. He needs a scandal. Perhaps he needs to bring up Clinton’s love of the Chinese who supplied Iran and Pakistan with nuclear materials?

If I have a chance to change her mind and enlighten her, I will. Besides, she’s my stylist and I certainly will not judge her for falling prey to conspiracy theories- and she’s just too darn good with those scissors and color!

Fred needs about $250K by 6 pm tomorrow. I hope FReepers can help. I will be helping him tomorrow myself, and I’ve already donated about 3x in the last two weeks.
