Well .. that’s news to me .. I’ve never heard him utter a word about closing the borders.

Ron Paul is very conservative on most issues. About the only ones he is not is foreign policy and drugs (which he wants left up to the states). I won't vote for him because of his foreign policy especially with regards to the Middle East but he's Pro Life, Pro Gun, Pro Small Government and Anti-Illegal Immigration.
Probably the only reason you haven’t heard him rail about immigration is because #1) the RINO Republican leadership have always hated him because he won’t vote for pork barrel projects they put and in fact he rails them on it and #2) the mainstream media hates him even more because he’s completely anti-socialist. It wasn’t until he was against Iraq that the media even put him on the radar at all. They still only do JUST enough to try to break apart the Republican Party but not enough to actually put Ron Paul into the spotlight as he’d be a Democrats worse nightmare.
