Paul defends asking for special projects (Yes, Ron Paul)

- Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul on Sunday defended his efforts in Congress to bring home money to his Texas district, despite his long-held aversion to big government and congressional votes to reign in federal spending.

"I've never voted for an earmark in my life," the Texas congressman said under questioning on NBC's "Meet the Press" about reports that he has requested hundreds of millions of dollars for special projects in his home district.

"I put them in because I represent people who are asking for some of their money back," said Paul, who likened it to taking a tax credit. "I'm against the tax system, but I take all my tax credits. I want to get their money back for the people."

The 10-term congressman and longshot candidate for the Republican presidential nomination added that although he has requested special projects known as earmarks, he ultimately ends up voting against them in the House.

He is by far the most fiscally reponsible w/ regards to earmarks & they still complain. You won’t hear a peep about that distinguished GOP senator from Alaska who chaired the appropriations committee. He is their hero. Nothing but a bunch of hypocrits.

I noticed that too. It is too damn funny. You have to read the entire interview. It gets better.

He puts on a dog and pony show with earmarks and you lap it up like the poodle you are.

He knows his vote against it serves no purpose but to ensure those donations (”18 MILLION!!!”), and that he will get those “tax credits” for the people, er, I mean Texas shrimp.

Lord only knows the government must be promoting the plight of the wild Texas shrimp!!

Paul at least acknowledges the system stinks and looks at the bigger picture. That’s more than that can be said about Republicans in general.

Ron Paul is a very successful con man and he’s suckering people like you.

ROFL. How am I being suckered? Any presidential candidate that supports abolishing the IRS and limiting government, and not to mention leaving the UN automatically has my vote.

You're the one that's being suckered, by supporting the status-quo, not me.

Uh Dr. Ron, who in Israel wants us to bomb Iran?

Dr. Ron: Well, I have no idea but you can read about it in the papers......

BAHAHAHAHAHA.

________________________________

MR. RUSSERT: This is what you said about Israel. “Israel’s dependent on us, you know, for economic means. We send them” “billions of dollars and they,” then they “depend on us. They say, `Well, you know, we don’t like Iran. You go fight our battles. You bomb Iran for us.’ And they become dependent on us.”

Who in Israel is saying “Go bomb Iran for us”?

REP. PAUL: Well, I don’t know the individuals, but we know that their leaderships—you read it in the papers on a daily—a daily, you know, about Israel, the government of Israel encourages Americans to go into Iran, and the people—I don’t think that’s a—I don’t think that’s top secret that the government of Israel...

MR. RUSSERT: That the government of Israel wants us to bomb Iran?

REP. PAUL: I, I don’t think there’s a doubt about that, that they’ve encouraged us to do that. And of course the neoconservatives have been anxious to do that for a long time.

Both of Billy Jeff’s presidential platforms were based on a fictional middle class tax cut.

I bet you held signs for him too.

All you're doing is preaching to the choir. When the smoke clears after this interview, those who support Paul already will continue supporting him, while those who don't like Paul will keep hating him. This interview, like the bogus Don Black "controversy," WON'T GO ANYWHERE.

Dr. Paul is the only candidate who isn't losing any of his supporters.

You know I will let up on Ron Paul when he resigns from the Republican party.

Every single time he makes utterances like this it makes me cringe as I belong to the party he is spitting on.

Oh my, you mean the his fiction is much grander than Billy’s was? My bad, my mistake.

You should be thankful he's running. If Ron Paul hadn't ran, the GOP would have went the way of the Whigs.

I guess growing the party over the long-term isn't in your best interests.

How am I being suckered?

Because you believe Paul could actually do anything he says he'd do.

What has Paul actually done in Congress that makes you believe in him? Surely, raking in earmarks he supposedly is against gives you a teensy bit of pause.

In reality, Paul hasn't been a leader for meaningful change in Congress and he could never be an agent of change as President.

You're the one that's being suckered, by supporting the status-quo, not me.

Ah, a typical Paul-supporter response. If a person isn't for Paul, they're for the status quo. You have no idea what I support. I'm just not about to fall for Paul.

His doubletalk on this has been quite extraordinary. If he gets them put in for other people to vote in for him but he himself votes against it, that makes it all okay, and doesn’t make him a hypocrite. LOL.

LOL - another stupid attempt at a defense. His fundraising quarter is a defense of the doublespeak, now, is it? LOL.
