My brother in law was a truck driver, he said pretty much the same thing about N.Y.C., that many truckers would not go there.
His own experience there, which I found a bit humorous but he didn't, was that he had to double park for 5 minutes and asked a meter maid if it was ok, she said, sure, go ahead. He went in whereever and came out 5 minutes later to find a very expensive parking ticket on the windshield, his side window was smashed and his brief case was stolen.
Yeah my mother is here for the holiday and we’ve been talking about this. She was telling me about driving through the the Bronx with guys hanging off her truck because she made the mistake of stopping at a red light.
That is true, and a lot of them don't like Chicago either, low bridges everywhere.
Because they get paid by the mile. They can spend an hour going a few miles in NYC, Manhattan in particular. Furthermore, if they have a long trailer, some turns are impossible. It's a hassle that doesn't pay well. It's not due to crime.
