I would have tossed the phone to the wife, simultaneously unholserting the weapon, she can call 911.

If no one is with me, weapon comes out first.

Perhaps you are right here:

Point weapon, pull out phone, call 911, if suspects still persist in the face of a gun (highly unlikely IMO) then consider shooting.
