Many Lakota have NOT become citizens of the uS by choice.

With the exception of the naturalized citizens, no American citizen became one by choice.

I guess this means they will forfeit their rights to Social Security and Medicare.

On the other hand, we control their access to airspace and everything else, their members are no longer US citizens, and should have to turn in their voter ID cards.

Yep. No longer a citizen, no longer available for benefits. Of course, you know how that'll go over with a socialist Congress.

NO more us government welfare checks, education, job training or health care. Net gain for the US taxpayer.

Not to mention new lands for national parks. While out globe trotting, don't let them back in without a VISA initiated from their home country - oh, they don't have a country? Too bad.

How many Lakotas? Demographics? Population???

70,000 registered Lakota Sioux. About 35,000 live on the reservations.

Tell the welfare chief that the government teat just dried up...Oh wait, the U. f’n N. will come to their aid. Much noise will be made, and for the U.N’s convenience they will let the Indians die, only to point their fingers at the U.S with a whole new set of accustions....

True. But Mackenzie did a number on American Horse in the winter of ‘76, and Miles broke the Cheyenne [and, indirectly], Crazy Horse the same winter. He also drove Sitting Bull into Canadian exile.

None of the immigrants were forced to live on an arid and unproductive stretch of desert

No native American is forced to live on a reservation. Those that live there choose to. Plenty of Native Americans choose not to.

American Indians were not U.S citizens until an act of Congress granted them citizenship in, I believe, 1924.

What in your mind does their secession from the treaty imply? Are we still bound by the treaty if the other party is not bound by it? Do we fall back into a state of war?

Notice the use of the present tense in post 241.

On this date in 1860 South Carolina decided to become an independent nation. It didn’t work. So far there is no evidence this is more than a publicity stunt by Russell Means.

United States v Nestor. Ephram Nestor was deported after it was discovered he had been a member of the Communist Party in the 1930’s. He was deported and his Social Security forfeited.
This was the decision where SCOTUS ruled that the government via Section 1104 of FICA (The reservation of Power)is under no obligation to pay you.

“While I agree there are some radical elements in the tribe, including Russell Means, before one criticizes the attitude, it would be good to see the living conditions on some of the reservations. Many people live in the run-down facilities, and there are no jobs for those who want them. There is a liquor store just across the line out of one reservation that supplies alcohol and thus promotes the rampant alcoholism. There are poor medical facilities and schools, and most of all, no hope for the future.”

I believe because of both alcohol and diabetes, the average life expectancy of a plains indian make is about 40 years. Something definitely needs to be done - I couldn’t tell you what it should be though.

However, these “radical” leaders need to be arrested for sedition and treason.

I really don’t know.

Honestly, I don’t. Heck we don’t even know if this is an official position of the Lakota Nation, given the wording of the article I have to assume not. But then we don’t know what we don’t know.
