Mike Boyce to run for Congress

ATLANTA - Retired Marine Corps Col. Mike Boyce, back from a 10-month stint as an infrastructure contractor in Iraq, is seeking to challenge Rep. Tom Price for his 6th District seat.
The 58-year-old Republican said he is running because of the need to enforce laws on illegal immigration and his concerns about the economy, Georgia's water woes and the war on terrorism.
Boyce, who lives in Marietta, said his maternal grandparents emigrated to the U.S. from Mexico and Portugal.
"They came here for the same reason that a lot of people did," he said. "But we're also a nation of laws. Unless you have the rule of law, everything else falls apart."
Boyce said foreign investors - particularly those wealthy from oil - are increasingly looking to buy American companies, which seek capital.
"I spent a lot of time in the Middle East and have business experience," he said. Boyce said he does not oppose foreign investors, but believes the U.S. should have "people who know how they think and worked in that environment."
He also said his familiarity with the Army Corps of Engineers while serving in Iraq would help him be a liaison in seeking to resolve issues concerning Lake Lanier and the region's exceptional drought.
Boyce, who served in the first Gulf War, said the conflict in Iraq requires diplomatic and economic solutions in addition to military action. His Web site also says the U.S. should continue to support our military and political efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"There are other government agencies that play a major role in bringing stability" to Iraq, he said. "Based on my time, not just in Iraq, but other countries, I can make a contribution there."
Boyce is married and has three children and two grandchildren.

Anyone have any local impressions of Price? He seems like a bit of a placeholder. Generic party hack who worked his way up the ranks.
I admit, I don’t know much about Tom Price.
Neither do I. He’s one of the quiet members of which you neither hear many complaints nor much heaping praise. He was the first GOP State Senate Majority Leader in GA in the modern era.
BTW, did you hear ex-Speaker Tom Murphy died on Monday ?
No, I didn’t. He was there for a long time.
A bitterly contested primary usually only helps the Democrats. However I think that hell will freeze before a Democrat gets elected in Georgia 6th.
2008’s comin’ up fast.
Instant forgiveness because he was a rodent. Makes you sick.
