“Sex-positive” is a label used by people who advocate sex at any age, under any circumstances, without any thought to values. I didn’t invent it.
Also, in the column I said that I’m not necessarily opposed to contraception-based education—I think it should be the parents’ decision. However, polls have shown that the vast majority of parents do NOT want their kids being forced to buy condoms or attending mandatory lectures by speakers who say “I am going to encourage you to have sex.”
After spending several hours a week researching this topic, I truly believe there is a drive by some groups to completely eliminate abstinence from the sex ed curriculum (besides maybe a disclaimer that it’s the only 100% effective protection against pregnancy and STDs, which anyone with an IQ over 40 already knows). This move is not supported by any research or half-credible medical organization.
I think they’ve been teaching abstinence at Catholic schools for years. My cousin told me when he went to a Catholic school, they said it was evil to even touch yourself, of course, that was about 45yrs ago.
