Fred was just barely hanging on to his seat when he retired. He likely would not have been elected another term. You've got to be kidding. He won that seat twice by landslides and he could have easily won a third term.

You've got to be kidding. He won that seat twice by landslides and he could have easily won a third term. I'm not kidding Fred was in trouble back here and he knew it. Oh how short some Freepers memories are. Fred was loathed after the senate trial vote. Before his second term Fred was a legend in Tennessee especially in his first term {a special election}and before that for bringing down Blanton. His second term was an easy win. His second term is where Fred began to fall apart. The DEMs were ready to take him on and he knew it.
