I suspect they really don't have a good case and they are fishing for a large nuisance value settlement. If they can harrass the defendant by the use of endless depositions and endless subpoenas, maybe they can force the University into crying uncle.

Have you read the complaint, and if so, how much of it? If I'm not mistaken, you have been asked this, but have not responded.
