RON PAUL: Well, I havent thought about it completely, but you know, it reminds me of what Sinclair, uh, Lewis once said, he said when Fascism comes to this country, it will be wrapped in the flag, carrying a cross. I dont know whether thats a fair assessment or not, but you wonder about using a cross like he is the only Christian, or implying that subtly. So, uh, I dont think I would ever use anything like that.
DOOCY: So, uh, Congressm you know, uh, Governor Huckabee is not selling fascism. Hes simply sending out a Christmas message, anyway, just curious how you felt about that. Congressman, if you would sit right there in Des Moines just for a moment, were going to take a quick time out...
No - he used it to attack Huckabees televangelistic campaign.
Thats it. Its a charge that I think has some merit. The Huckabee ad was disgusting.
He could have made any number of statements that attacked Huckabee without associating Christianity with Fascism. The fact he chose to use this phrase, whether apocryphal or not, while continuing to take money from known Fascists is despicable beyond belief.
You want to defend him? Fine. That tells me something, too.
“He could have made any number of statements that attacked Huckabee without associating Christianity with Fascism.”
I don’t see it that way. The charge is as empty as Dems claim that challenging their policies is “questioning their patriotism.”
and don't forget the qualifier.
