Another school of thought, including THE WEEKLY STANDARD's own Dean Barnett and Stephen F. Hayes, says Thompson won.
It makes you wonder: Let's say Mike Huckabee is experiencing a Dean-like bubble that will pop on caucus night. If the parallel works, Huckabee ends up, like Dean, placing third. Who would be in second in that case? Let's say Thompson comes in second, since he's running third at the moment. Then the GOP is set up for a Romney-Thompson fight. It could happen. Really.

I am not a Romney fan, but he is definitely formidable. He seems to be polished on his rehearsed statements. For a “republican” to win a statewide election in Massachusetts is pretty serious. I know he followed other GOPers (Weld and Celluci), but it means something else there than it does in the south. So many liberal states elect republican governors to keep state taxes low, and send liberals to DC to bring home my money to their states.
One thing that people fail to bring up about Romney is that he is very handsome. That’ll get him a good handful of votes by itself. That’s just the truth.
Without seeing the methodology Luntz used to put together his group of "average voters", this is just another anecdotal support from someone who's been auditioning for a position in a Romney administration for several years. Luntz is not an objective analyst.
He was once part of the Republican loop but was cast to the periphery some years ago. Luntz sold his bill of goods to the cable news chattering classes and has hitched his wagon to Romney's future. The fact that he totally ignored Thompson's performance during his post-debate talk show tour says something about his objectivity.

Cant take the heat, can you.

Follow the forum rules. I don’t care about Huckabee, but no one wants to read the same campaign attack literature posted over and over.
Dont be coy about it, I bet you’ve been gulled by Huckster the RINO and his slick uber-Christian “I’m Mr Genuine” act, even if for just a while.
It seems that the folks most upset about the Mormon issue are the ones with the least amount of discernment over Huckabee the soft-on-crime tax-hiking nanny-stater.
Am I wrong? Are you over that swoon? Or never got sucked in?
Huckabee's a pro-life liberal; that's pretty clear. But I could vote for Huck, or McCain, in a general election, where I could never vote for a phony liberal (Romney) or an authoritarian libertine (Rudy).
Fair enough, Thompson and Hunter are the most conservative ones in the race. And kudos if you never drank the Huck Jesus juice.
But voting for Huck in a general election while not voting Romney? Romney was and is more conservative than Huckabee, especially on fiscal issues, and far more of a genuine leader capable of being President.
