LDS says other Christian denominations are "apostate". Below are some quotes:

Christianity was declared by Mormon president John Taylor to be... "a perfect pack of nonsense …a sounding brass and a tinkling symbol; it is as corrupt as hell; and the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work… - Journal of Discourses vol.6, p.167."

Joseph Smith claimed that he was commanded in a vision of God and Jesus not to join any church:

"... for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: "they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof. - Joseph Smith - History 1:19."

In truth, they regard the Bible as unreliable and corrupted by apostate Christendom. One early Mormon leader stated,

"The Bible …is not the word of God, but the word of uninspired translators - Pamphlets of Orson Pratt pp.70-71."

Joseph Smith declared that the Book of Mormon is,the most correct of any book on earth …and a man would get nearer God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book. The Book of Mormon itself has this to say about the Bible:

"... for behold they have taken away from the gospel of the Lamb many parts which are plain and most precious; and also many covenants of the Lord have they taken away. And all this have they done that they might pervert the right ways of the Lord, that they might blind the eyes and harden the hearts of the children of men. - 1 Nephi 13:26-27."

“LDS says other Christian denominations are “apostate”. “

So what? Why are you posting something neither novel nor relevent? Every sect outside of your own considers your sect to be wrong. Evert sect has a beef with other sects (or they would join up). Quelle surprise.

- Would you want others to be denigrating your sect?
- Should a condition of tolerance of your sect be your sects acceptance of its definition by, say the Catholic Church?
- Should people of other sects consider your sect a bar to public office?
- Would you find it acceptable if people assumed your sect’s membership were untrustworthy and of bad character for being members?

In light of that, and in light of Jesus’ commandment to do unto others as you would have others do unto you, consider whether your treatment of Mormons and their beliefs is following that commandment. Consider the implications if we opened this up in politics; do you want Huckabee to be subjected to question after question on details of Baptist theology? What about McCain, Thompson, etc.? Fair? Whats the point? They are not running for Pastor. This is not a theology thread, its a political thread, and your comments might be appropriate in the context of a dialog/discussion on theology, but really has no legitimate bearing on the presidential race. It’s trivia. Or do you think Mike Huckabee was wrong to say that it should be off the table?
