I don’t disagree with you. I have been critical of the “peace process” ever since Oslo showed up on the radar. But Olmert doesn’t come out of this affair smelling like a rose, either.

As far as I can tell, the whole conference was just an exercise in window dressing. And Olmert as well as Bush went along with it. if Israel is to be protected, which I have always fought for, then it has to start with the Israelis themselves. Olmert has done far more damage to his own people than Bush could possibly do, so starting a food fight between allies and pretending that Olmert is the offended good guy and Bush is the offending bad guy makes little sense.

The 'grown-up' thing to do would have been to cancel the entire farce. Or better yet tell Olmert that if he wants to commit national suicide he can do it without our assistance.
