...it is obvious that Huckabee made this statement for the sole purpose of taking one aspect of a religion, presenting it in the worse possible light, and letting it drop to a reporter in the hope of gaining a few more political points with evangelicals. For shame.

It's obvious that LadyNavyvet took this Huckabee question for the sole purpose of taking one aspect of Huckabee's religious understandings, presenting it in the worse possible light, and posting it on a FREEPER thread in the hope of Huckabee losing a few political points with FREEPERS & lurkers. (Oh, how do you plead?)

The fact is that what he said isn’t as important as why he said it...

So I guess we'll conclude the same thing. The content of your post isn't what we're objecting to as much as "why" you've said it (well, at least we can do the "honorable" thing and ask you for your motivation vs. the "dishonorable" thing of pretending to know someone's inward heart & judging them before many...please tell us, since you know "why" Huckabee said this...we want the "inside scoop").

America was established by the Founding Fathers to be an open, pluralistic, religiously-tolerant society. Huckabee has proven himself unworthy of that legacy.

Nice to see you extend that wonderful open, pluralistic, religious tolerance toward Huckabee's one question!

“Oh, how do you plead?”

If he was asking a NYT reporter a question about the nuances of Mormon belief, he was obtuse. If he was getting a less-than-subtle dig about Mormon beliefs into an article he knew would be widely read, he was disgraceful. Your choice.

“The content of your post isn’t what we’re objecting to as much as “why” you’ve said it...”

Because his motives are obvious to an unbiased observer, of which I am one, being a supporter of neither Huckabee nor Romney.

Huckabee knew full well the reporter had nothing to teach him about Mormonism, but he just couldn’t resist getting the insult in. Huckabee needs to learn that he is running for President of the United States, not President of the Evangelicals. He can adhere to his beliefs without belittling the beliefs of others, especially since, as President, part of his job would be to see that everyone’s rights were protected, and that would includes the rights of religious minorities with whose doctrine he disagrees.

“Nice to see you extend that wonderful open, pluralistic, religious tolerance toward Huckabee’s one question!”

I am criticising his actions, not his beliefs.
