The man who killed four people at a church and missionary training center died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound, police said Tuesday. How did the "assault rifle" suddenly turn into a shotgun? All reports I saw so far, estimated he had close to 1,000 rounds of ammo. If that is so, it wasn't shotgun shells. That would be two cases of ammo.

That would be 4 flats of shotgun shells (10 boxes x 25 shells per flat.) About 20 lbs per flat.

The reports that I heard said one rifle, two pistols, and a shotgun. There were early reports of him using a rifle and some parishoners being confused by having been hit by shotgun pellets.

All reports I saw so far, estimated he had close to 1,000 rounds of ammo. Maybe they were counting individual pellets? There's either 16 or 20 pellets to a load of #1 buck, at least for Federal shells, the latter being for the magnum load. So using 16 pellets per load yields just over 60 shells. Not allowing for the handgun ammunition.
Do I really need the sarcasm tag?
