It would have to be misinformation, because the person who took the creep’s gun away (after the guard had shot him dead and he was sliding down the wall) said that the gun had jammed. So I think that rules out suicide

Not necessarily. He could've pistol whipped himself to death.
Or he could have had -- and by most accounts did have -- more than one gun.
