Same here. I remember the pall of sadness the day Nixon lost to Kennedy. It seemed more important in our family than religion. Some ministers were liked more than others but we never walked away from voting for a Republican. It was only later in life that I realized how conservative Republicanism seamlessly integrated with the principles of Christianity.
I have told my sons that they can bring anybody home as long as she is a Republican. That in common will say more about your shared values than any other indicator.

I was born and raised a conservative.
I hold my nose and vote Republican.
On RARE occasion have I voted Dem and when I have, it has always been at the local govt level, someone with a decent reputation, etc.
