I don't object to this guy coming forward. As I understand it, waterboarding was originally designated as just within the range of permissable techniques, but was later abandoned because of moral scruples. The Bush admin followed legal counsel in determining what was or was not torture.

Apparently this technique had very limited use - three individuals have been named - so the worst-case scenario is that we hardly ever used a technique on the margins of legality. This ex-CIA guy seems a straight shooter who isn't trying to make cheap partisan points.

The person who should be embarrassed by this is Pelosi, who remained silent even though she had been briefed five years ago. It is unconscionable for her to have pretended all this time that she didn't know what was going on and didn't give her tacit approval.
