Didn't the media declare conservatism "dead" when Barry Goldwater (who some call the "father of conservatism" even though he never really was a true conservatism) lost to LBJ? And then didn't the media say that conservatism was REALLY "dead" when Ford beat Reagan for the GOP nomination in 1976? This is just another variation on that same theme. The left will always minimize and marginalize the importance and influence of what they fear the most.
