I really don't understand this trend in this country to hail people as heroes for doing the job they were hired to do. Yes, this woman did a very good job and did save many lives, but that is why she was hired. I heard the pastor saying that the guard was there because there was alarm about the shooting near Denver.

Like many other words and phrases in our country, hero is losing some of its meaning by excessive usage.

Your post reminds me of the joke;

Do you know what you call a blonde with two brain cells?

Pregnant

To the most aptly named freeper....

The woman was a volunteer, but even if she were not, even if she were being paid like an NBA player, what she did was heroic by any standard. Any standard that is except yours which, it would seem, strips combat infantry of their due respect as heroic because they are being paid.

It is HUGE to celebrate a self-armed citizen who stops bloodshed. When the spaces are "gun free zones" (VT, Ohama Mall) and the gunmen go on a rampage, the media plays up the danger and evils of "guns" up the wazoo. This story is big because it SHOWS America what the alternative is when you permit ALL citizens to be armed everywhere--no Columbine, no Virginia Tech, no Omaha. No cops cowering behind trees waiting for the ammo to run out. You get JUSTICE.

What would you call the Deputy Sheriff that turned and ran “to get help” at Columbine?

She had a CCL and was church member, she wasn’t paid for this, she wasn’t a security guard.

She was just a citizen with a carry permit.

How many gun fights have you been in?

On the news tonight, they said the woman was a volunteer, not a hired guard.
