It’s true that I knew nothing, and had heard nothing of this Wallinger fellow before posting the article on the Turner Prize. However, being vaguely acquainted with the politics of the Turner, and fashionable Brit artists in general, I felt that derision was a safe and suitable knee-jerk response.

I’m old-fashioned enough to believe that art prizes should be awarded for aesthetic mastery and achievement. Prancing around in a bear suit has no aesthetic qualities at all, even if the bear is named Muhammad, or George Bush.
