Hell. Two chances to shape up and quit. Third strike you’re out and executed. Problem eliminated.

What! You stupidly thought I was nice?

The solution you suggest would substantially strengthen the power of the government. Why not just remove all of the subsidies that addicts enjoy instead?

No more welfare, disability pay, food stamps, free hospital visits, etc. for addicts. If the addict can't pull his life together, and no one wants to help him voluntarily, then he has to face the consequences.

We still get rid of addicts, but at the same time DECREASE the power of the government overall. Seems like a better way to go.

A zero sum game huh. You just want to see a lot of dead cops don't you. Arresting a drug user on his third conviction, with him facing the death penalty would likely be dangerous, especially since the cop might not even be aware that the person he has stopped has a joint in his pocket...for his third time. Most drug users are non violent. That would change rapidly. Americans would see a real shooting war in the streets then. Think before you postulate nonsense. Your mind set surpasses that of even the most rigid drug warriors heading up policy at the ODC. Solutions that work are what we need. Punishment has not worked.
