It makes no sense to a psychologically healthy person, but to an unhealthy person, liberal victimhood is psychologically empowering, because at least it allows the self-proclaimed victim to externalize their subjugation while secretly being responsible for it.

Because nobody answers the obvious followup question: "Since you are a jerk only because you were 'victimized' by another jerk, what must we conclude about that other jerk? Wasn't he a 'victim' too? So why blame him??"
The reason this question is never brought up is because they really believe that other jerk is morally culpable, no victim at all. The "victim" schtick is merely a deflector shield, meant to pre-empt discussion of the culpability of present company.
