bray, THIS IS AN AWESOME account. GREAT job...
I share the feelings and concerns of this young Marine. I saw what my generation did to returning Vietnam Vets, and I said nothing, did nothing. Many years ago, I resolved that if given as similar situation, I would not sit idly by and let it happen again...thankfully, as the GOE last March showed, there are a lot of Americans who feel the same way.
God Bless and protect these men and women serving, and let us make them proud of what they are doing and have done, as they rightfully should be.
This was a GREAT thread you posted!

Do the Iraqi police and soldiers still wear face masks? It really annoys me that the media have opted out of reporting the war.

He was thrilled when he got back to the States that the Vietnam Vets were there to meet them. He spoke sadly of how the Vets wanted to make sure that they didnt have to return in disgrace as they had. He understands the link between the two wars. He realizes that the same tactics are being used against him that shamed the Nam Vets. He spoke of how we never lost a battle in Nam yet we lost the war. He said he hopes the same thing doesnt happen to him. I explained to him this is really the final battle of Vietnam. Never Forget, Never Forgive Hanoi Jane or Peace with disHonor.
We will NOT let that happen again....EVER!

Thanks for sharing... my son got back in late September (due to his enlistment was ending and a family crisis), from Ramadi, but his unit got back last week. They worked very hard, but the progress in that area has been amazing.

There has been so much progress in my son’s AO that they are bored, “sitting around” and just counting the days til they get home after the first of the year. He attributes it to the volunteer militias who have stood up to the insurgents and have made their own world safe again. He asked if there was much in the news about it...ummm.....no.....
