PRIME Minister John Howard has called Labor leader Kevin Rudd to concede defeat in the federal election.

They were covering the Aussie elections, and all they could talk about was Howard’s support for the Iraq war vs. the challenger’s non-support. Of course the BBC is a bunch of lefty twits, but at least they admit as much unlike the American MSM.
Australia is preparing for HRC by getting someone with a similar philosophy.
HRC will have a friend in Canberra!
I'm afraid I don't see the comparison. The right to bear arms is essential to liberty in a free society. It's not some cultural idiosyncrasy, like the side of the road you drive your car on. It's a basic human right. One that Australians' willingly forfeited in exchange for a cure all for their crime problems.
A series of massacres paved the way for gun control in Oz... the same way sweeping gun laws are proposed after every high profile killing spree in the states. It's not that it "works for them". It's that they're slightly ahead of us on the socialist curve when it comes to things like gun laws and socialized medicine.
And *they've* managed to keep a free society so far...regardless of what gun laws might be in effect.
The National Firearms Agreement is eleven years old. Are you suggesting that if sweeping gun control legislation doesn't completely obliterate the free state in a decade's time, it must be benign?
Dear Australia:
I read with remorse, the choice you have made in this election cycle of yours.
You have turned your back on your mightiest ally, in favor of The Glorious Cause Of World Socialism.
Seeing that the inevitable re-ascension to power of She Who Must Not Be Named is only a year away, perhaps it was a signal to your Socialist brethren here, that Canberra will follow the diktat emanating from Her palace on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
I grieve and weep for your nation, as I grieve and weep for mine, and what is to come.
banning guns works? for what? we have the right to own guns to protect against tyrannical govt.
And *they’ve* managed to keep a free society so far...regardless of what gun laws might be in effect.

but Rudd was just elected...
I was a volunteer over the last 2 weekends, handing out how-to-vote cards, at our Australian National elections. I have NEVER been involved with politics. 9/11 and US 2004 got me interested in politics, and from there, I realised I have always believe in “Conservative” vales” I have never been a John Howard fan, because he is portrayed as old, and boring. But his unwavering alliance with Bush on the Iraq War and the wider war on Islamofascism, won me over to Howard. Here was a man who dared to be unpopular, and stuck, without blinking, to his convictions. He has never been a populist. Rudd, the new PM, is the U.S. version of Hillary Clinton he has the uncanny ability to avoid answering, or give answers that mean many things, or he can switch answers, as quickly as he blinks.
My dad was born in Mainland China. He and his brothers and sister eventually fled from there. I was born outside of that place. The new Oz PM speaks fluent Mandarin, and embraces China (has a fascination with Chinese History). I don’t speak Mandarin (I speak only English). I find it troubling for an Australian PM to have that morbid fascination with what China represents.
Part of the reason the Conservative failed is because of their own making they should have hired PR and marketing consultants to inject new life into a very successful government that had been in power for 11 years. In Australia, we have the TALL POPPY syndrome. Those successful usually end up being the target of being cut down to size. Much (97%) of the new governments policy is STOLEN from John Howards government. Watch for these trends in Australia with the new government rise in unionism (endless strikes that we used to have under the ALP, Australian Labor Party), rapid deaths of small businesses, and eventually Australia, going into a multi-billion $ trade deficit (John Howard inherited a huge deficit from such a government) when he won 11 years ago.
I first heard Rudd, on radio, 6 years ago. My instinct was this is a very cunning man. At that time, I was not (yet) even a John Howard fan, or interested in politics, let alone a Conservative. I believe I am absolutely correct. He has managed to con the swing voters. Watch for Australias next bankruptcy thats when Australians will wake up eg. when interest rates shoot up thats when you see the new government get kicked out. Its INEVITABLE. It is a party founded on WELFARE, and income redistribution. Eventually, enough of the golden goose that lay the golden eggs will be killed, to strangulate the economy. Thats when people wake up. That is why I would never ever return to the land of my father. Its similar ideology equalize everyone; let the government decide what is good for you.
Yes, I am saddened by John Howards departure. Greatly.
GOD BLESS AMERICA. And may God Bless Australia, too.
Well said, my friend. Good luck, and may God be with you.
good post!
Why would she say this?
As do I. I am constantly being misinterpreted. My error, my apology, for writing something which could be interpreted as meaning something else! (shaking head) I am going to have to work on that!
Didn’t Howard lose?
Google News states that Rudd won.
Thanks for the clarification.
shes saying we should be grateful we had Howard, thats all.
I'd say this was the main issue. For better or worse, people like to see a change after this much time.
In the usual pattern, the Lefties years in power are passed spending freely on idiotic social programs, over taxing the economy, and wallowing in corruption. When things get bad enough, the call goes to the Conservatives, who clean up these messes and get things rolling again.
But then, after things have been good for awhile, the electorate once again falls for that old siren song by the Left: "We'll give you a benefit, and make somebody else pay for it." Thus the cycle repeats.
I’m going to open a burgua store chain up and down the east coast of Aus.
Didn’t know they were having an election, didn’t know he was in trouble, didn’t know a thing. La-dee-da. Fiddle-dee-dee. Guess I’ll go back to sleep now.
G’day. Well said about the “pattern”. “Howard inherited a Labor-led government in 1995 that had wall-to wall debt and an Australia that was described by the then outgoing Labor PM, Paul Keating, as a banana republic that had a recession “we (Aussies) had to have”! Howard’s government went about the painstaking job of clearing the debt Labor left behind, over along period, to minimise pain to the average Aussie, while implementing tax cuts. Howard’s government was a financially prudent one. Recently, Australia went into the “black” - just in time for Labor to come in, rubbing their hands with glee, over how they can, again, redistribute wealth, through their social programs, to beshackle the electorate, to vote Labor for “handouts”.
Here’s something telling about the mentality of Labor (our version of the US Leftist pinkos) - Maxine McKew, ex reporter on ABC(Oz’s version of PBS, contesting the seat of PM Howard, prmised to start a new Government Departtment to cater for jobless youths. YES, another government department to inject SELF ASPIRATION into the down and out. How naive or is it SHREWD? Get the needy and desperate to DEPEND on you, says the Labor Party’s motto, so that they will keep voting for you.
