Mitt Romney called attempts to undermine him by questioning his Mormon faith "un-American" as he spoke to reporters in Nevada yesterday. Romney was specifically responding to reported "push-poll" phone calls being made in Iowa and New Hampshire, in which the calls reportedly begin as opinion polls but turn into statements and questions designed to highlight and cast doubt on Romney's Mormon faith. Here is what Romney had to say.....(Video)

I've been a member all my life and never once heard this. If a Mormon said this he certainly wasn't speaking for the church. Could you please provide a source?
Thank you, it is important that the core conservative, primary voters not let themselves be intimidated into silence on any possible concerns about their own candidates that they have to choose from.
The problem comes when the analysis of the candidates belief system is flawed. It was the untruths that were foisted in the push polls that caused Mitt to react. It is very American to defend ones particular faith position when it is unjustly attacked.
“It was the untruths that were foisted in the push polls that caused Mitt to react.”
What were the untruths?
How about "Mormons believe the Book of Mormon is superior to the Bible". That is a false statement. Both books are considered to contain the word of God and one is not favored over the other.
I have seen some very long threads here where it came out that when the Christians used the Bible that the Mormons would counter with what they said was superior BOM stuff.
Even if my memory is inaccurate, it sounds like you are saying that they are equal?
I consider LDS theology a travesty at best but I have to agree with Romney on this.
You sign up today, agitprop, just to post this whine?
All that said, it should not be held against Romney.
You make a good point. To take it one level deeper, Mitt Romney mouths his religion in this essay but in fact his governing acts fall far short of what his religion would support! Most Mormons are very conservative people on issues like abortion, coddling homosexauls, self-reliance instead of government control and government welfare, defense of traditional family under attack from the degeneracy community, etc. Frankly, Romney’s non-Mormon policies just point all the more to a pandering flip flopper, not a devout Mormon. So he’s now using Mormonism as a tool to manipulate the public! What a sleazy politician he’s proving himself to be.
Yes. The word of God is in both books and Mormons do not view the Bible as being subordinate.
Having stated that, it is also true that Mormons believe that certain truths that were taught in the primitive Church didn't make it into the Bible and that there are some translation problems (accidental and possibly intentional) that occurred over the century's since the books of the Bible were written. For the most part these errors are viewed to be minor in nature and any Mormon reader of the Bible will testify that God's word is found throughout the book and we are eternally grateful for those who made such great sacrifice over the century's to preserve God's word for modern man. Joseph Smith loved the Bible and said that those who read it most would love it best.
“For some reason, Romney thinks he must say that he is a Christian. Why, I do not understand.”
WHY?? Because everyone on this post (or anywhere else) who has a problem with his Mormonism questions whether it’s ‘Christian’ or whether Mormons believe in Christ or has some other issue regarding what he believes. So I understand perfectly why Mitt has to keep reiterating that he’s a christian. Mormons believe in Christ. Would it pacify everyone if he was agnostic or an atheist? He’s shown some incredible class and restraint in the face of this religious ‘persecution’. ENOUGH ALREADY.
“Yeah, even a well-respected (ugh) Christian like Dobson questioned whether Fred Thompson was a real Christian. Shameful, really.”
Considering the source was a guy that had as a close associate one Ted Haggard, I place no value whatsoever in his judgement.
His next move was to be “too busy” to help rehabilitate poor wayward Ted. Empty suit, like too many of these outspoken types.
I easily conclude Thompson is more of the type Christian I was taught about: short on words long on actions.
Dobson can find no qualms about Thompson’s voting record on pertinent matters, so he effectively insults the guy for no stated reason.
When it comes to walking the walk, give me the Mormons I have known over my life-hands down. By full disclosure, that includes relatives of mine, although I have never been a Mormon.
Thank you for posting The REAL Story of Thanksgiving!
“Yes. The word of God is in both books and Mormons do not view the Bible as being subordinate.”
Thanks, the rest of your post I can read, but I’m not a theologian guy so most of it is wasted on me.
I still don’t see that Romney was reacting to lies, equal and superior is a little bit of hair splitting (in the context of the issue at hand).
Why is it that when a Mormon attempts to define Mormonism that it is somehow viewed as a distortion?
..their real position is that they accept the Bible in so far as correctly translated and reject key Christian doctrines such as the Trinity and salvation through grace, citing in part their other holy books.
Could you please show me the precepts of Trinitarianism in the Bible? Mormons do not reject grace. There is no way that any man can attain salvation through his works alone. The Bible also teaches us that faith without works is dead. Like two sides in a pair of scissors, grace and works combine together in bringing a man back to God.
“Hes shown some incredible class and restraint in the face of this religious persecution”
He has shown fear.
Before you guys get into all your complicated theology stuff, will you tell me quickly is Christ supposed to return to Missouri or the Middle East, that is bugging me.
