Romney Calls Attacks on His Faith Un-American
Right Views USA ^ | November 17, 2007 | Keith Anders

Posted on 11/17/2007 6:27:48 PM PST by Nathan_Hale76

Mitt Romney called attempts to undermine him by questioning his Mormon faith "un-American" as he spoke to reporters in Nevada yesterday. Romney was specifically responding to reported "push-poll" phone calls being made in Iowa and New Hampshire, in which the calls reportedly begin as opinion polls but turn into statements and questions designed to highlight and cast doubt on Romney's Mormon faith. Here is what Romney had to say.....(Video)

I still don’t see that Romney was reacting to lies, equal and superior is a little bit of hair splitting (in the context of the issue at hand).

I disagree. The point of the push poll was to describe Romney as a man who belonged to a faith that rejected the Bible as something inferior. That is false, false, false and needs to be challenged.

Before you guys get into all your complicated theology stuff, will you tell me quickly is Christ supposed to return to Missouri or the Middle East, that is bugging me.

He will appear in both locations at different times.

Romney is absolutely right in this remark.

Republican party is a big tent and open to different beliefs as long as they dont challenge western civilisation and America(as Islam does).

There are certain ultra right kooks who want the GOP to nothing more than a theocratic party pandering to a certain view point, such a trend is to be resisted.

Nixon was a Quaker...did anyone question that? Lincoln was an agnostic...anyone have a problem with that? Romney isn’t insinuating that we shouldn’t have an interest in a candidates religious beliefs, he’s insinuating that it’s un-American to be PERSECUTED for your religious beliefs, hence his constantly having to explain that he believes in Christ and therefore is Christian. Fred Thompson’s is ‘The Church of Christ’. Sounds pretty ‘generic’ to me.

“The point of the push poll “

That was only one of the purposes of that push poll that I hope gets tracked down. I don’t like that kind of BS, an upfront ad fine, but not this sneaky anonymous stuff.

“He will appear in both locations at different times”

I have heard it firmly stated that he would arrive in Missouri, or that he would arrive in the Middle East, this is the first time that I have heard the non committal answer.

Formally, I have heard that the church itself says that he will first show in Missouri, is that correct?

Do not forget that a sleazy politician with a religion problem could easily generate a push poll he then can exploit to try and manipulate voters ... it’s the revulsion factor played large depending upon being able to manipulate people into backlash ... and in our overly secularized culture it isn’t hard to do!

“In fact, pastors at my church have called it a cult.”

How intolerant. I went to Catholic school for 12 years (1-12) and had many discussions and debates about different religions during that time. Not once was there a reference or statement from the priests or teachers that Mormonism was a cult. Cult = a cohesive social group devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture considers outside the mainstream. I guess that pretty much describes Catholics, jews, quakers, Methodists, Seventh Day Adventists, Calvinists..well, you get my drift.

We all know that, but we don’t know squat at this moment.

Something happened, we have no idea who did it, we shouldn’t spend any time trying to figure out stuff we can’t know yet.

This is one of those sneaky political things, at this point everyone is under suspicion and speculation is a waste of time.

Typically meaningless, now give us the official Catholic position on the Mormon church.

I can hardly begin to count the ways in which that statement is absurd. So I'll just toss out one. More than seven people arrived from Norway yesterday. Unless they were members of the little-known Oslo band of the Cherokee Nation, that pretty much knocks the bottom out of your claim.

No! No! No! Remember back in '97 and '98 when FR was half dueling scriptures. I had dialup and if I clicked on a thread that turned religious it took forever to load. Whoever posted the longest scripture or list of Biblical references won the debate. That's why I'm bald now.

That list gave me flashbacks. Post-traumatic scripture disorder.

It’s a standing joke in Indian Country. Ask any paleface if they have Indian lineage and 9 of 10 will claim Cherokee heritage. Those Cherokee must have had 12 inch coup sticks.
