Tell your husband's cousin's son congratulations for me.

Back in 1992, when I was working on my Eagle project, I decided to put some fish houses in the local reservoir to help protect the small fry until they are grown. I talked with the local game warden and the KY Department of Fish and Game folks and they all recommended taking four or five old tires, bolting them together with stainless steel bolts, and putting them out in deep water. I got all of the materials donated and got to work with some of the other scouts getting these houses prepared.

Four days before we were going to go out and put them in the lake, I was informed that someone had protested to the city council about my "dumping" old tires in the lake so we were not going to be allowed to proceed. Fortunately, the game warden was able to direct us to another nearby lake, where the house's were successfully set in deep water and the project was a complete success.

The sad thing is, the person who protested to the city council was the mother of another member of our troop, who didn't even bother talking to us about her concerns. But it all worked out for the best, as the lake that we'd originally planned to put them in had to be drained a few years later because of a leak in the dam. The city put some large concrete houses out in the lakebed before they refilled it, so my houses would have been simply hauled off to the dump.

Hey — that’s cool! But you know - the story about the mom is really a sad thing. It’s too bad she couldn’t have talked to YOU rather than just complain.
