..Well, .223. Lotta men using that in the sand box....

Certainly not entirely by choice.

Please don't misunderstand me. I think it's a fine rifle. It's just not the greatest weapon available. I just would prefer to use something that was selected for its lethality, rather than its ease of training, and the portability of its ammo.

There are plenty of folks, in and out of the "sandbox", who are stridently advocating a return to a real rifle and round that kills 'em the first time you hit 'em.

Those tiny little high speed, 55-grain Prairie Dog bullets often have a tendency to punch right through skinny Hajis.

All that extra ammo you can carry doesn't make much sense when you have to use two or three times as much to put 'em down.

But hey, I knew I was going to stir the pot when I brought it up. To each his own.

An aluminum barrel? I don’t think so for $999.

From the picture above, it’s a plain old gas tube.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com i guess you can still buy a RINO kit to fix it with... damn shame ya gotta rework a brand new rifle yourself if you want one though.

I’m saving for an M1A because I agree. I do like my AR though.

>For peak accuracy, the R-15’s 0.680” OD barrel sis precision-crafted from ChroMoly steel. It’s free-floated within the machined-aluminum fore-end tube<

Nope, I was reading too fast.

What’s a RINO kit and why do you think you need one?

Why a chrome-molybdenum barrel? In those calibers and with a semi-auto it is likley to see a lot of rounds. Stainless would seem a much better choice to me, though it would cost Remington a few more bucks a rifle.

As I try to explain to my son, shoot the heck out of the gun and then and only then see if it needs some of the special parts you think you need. Otherwise you’re just wasting money when you can be buying more toys.

No idea. I’ll ask my company’s inspector which metal holds up better.
