GOP Finds Solid Ground on Iraq War

Politico: With Democrats Foundering, GOP Goes On Offensive Over Iraq

For the first time since losing control of Congress in 2006, Republicans are back on offense in the political struggle over the Iraq war, as Democratic plans to force a change in strategy by President Bush through peeling away his GOP support continue to yield few results.

Republicans are increasingly buoyed by perceived divisions among Democrats, seeming signs of progress on the ground in Iraq and the fact that the first brigade of U.S. troops started coming home Tuesday.

Democrats insist they are still united on ending the war. Public opinion polls also overwhelmingly favor Democrats who back a quick end to the conflict, and on Tuesday, Democratic leaders unveiled a report showing that the Iraq campaign will cost far more - as much as $3.5 trillion - if the United States stays engaged in Iraq for another decade.

But after a summer of bitter partisan battles over the war, Democrats are going into an Iraq funding battle this week with little hope of dividing Bush and Republicans on Capitol Hill, and they privately seem resigned that the White House will continue to have its way on funding the long-running conflict.

See what happens when the GOP actually sticks to its guns, instead of folding like a French pocketknife?

President Bush has already called checkmate, it’s the Rats in Congress that won’t concede defeat. The more the Rats try to withhold funds from this point on the more it becomes obvious to the American people that they’ve always wanted our military to lose in this WOT.

The Democrats went “all-in” for defeat in Iraq. They thought they could control the Congress and the White house for the next 30 years by hanging this defeat on George Bush and the Republican Party. They thought Bush would be so freaked out after the 2006 election that he would cut and run, and that all the GOP candidates for President would run away from the war. They were 1000 times wrong. Nothing they can do now but lick their wounds.

Everyone please order bumper stickers, and display them from now till Nov. 2008 —

IRAQ IS A SUCCESS

DEMOCRATS ARE THE FAILURES

These two lines fit nicely on one bumper sticker (3 3/4 “ by 14 3/4”)

Put them on bumpers, light poles, stop signs, anywhere and everywhere a sticker will stick.

Agreed.

From Rasmussen Reports:

Partisan assessments of U.S. foreign policy success remain sharply divided. Fifty-five percent (55%) of Republicans are optimistic about the short-term in Iraq, versus just 10% of Democrats. On the long-term prospects, 62% of Republicans expect success, 73% of Democrats expect failure.

The only thing that is overwhelming is the deliberate blindness of the Democrats. It should be stunning that they hate their country so much, but sadly it's all too obvious.

Maybe CBS will bring back Walter Conkite, so he can throw in the towel.

Its not the war... its not taxes... its not surveillance... its not detainees or ‘torture’... its not illegal immigrants... its not medical insurance for 23 year old children... its not Katrina... its not global-warming... Its BUSH, BUSH, BUSH! The left hates him so irrationally, so viscerally, that they would prefer defeat over victory, because they can’t stand the thought that he might be vindicated.

Well said. It reminds me of the joke:

“The Pope visits Washington and President Bush takes him for a ride down the Potomac on the presidential yacht. They’re enjoying themselves when a gust of wind blows the Pope’s hat off and out onto the water. The Secret Service begins to launch a boat but Bush waves them off saying, “Wait. I’ll take care of this.” Bush steps off the yacht onto the surface of the water, walks out a ways and picks up the hat. Back on board, he hands the hat to the Pope amid stunned silence. The next morning the Washington Post carries the story complete with photos under the heading BUSH CAN’T SWIM.”

God Bless President Bush and VP Cheney.

And thank God that we are blessed with such a spectacular performing military!

The Dems never did understand the moral and legal reasons for the war. They are a complete mess.
