I heard Dr. Sowell on G Gordon Liddy's radio program before our youngest son was born, and remembered him talking about autism and how it is often misdiagnosed. So, a few years later when our son was not talking at age 3, I got his book and read it. After a normal hearing test, we went to a speech therapist who thought she saw "autistic tendencies" - whatever that is. I knew my son was not autistic, I've seen real autistic kids and he wasn't like them at all.
We ended up in Nashville seeing Dr. Camarata. He told us our son is NOT autistic. They gave us things to do to help him and with their help and continued evaluations over the next couple years our son overcame his language delay and is now doing very well.
