Clarence Page may be a liberal chowderhead on most issues. But he is certainly a talented writer and one of the few on the other side who can write rationally rather than emotionally. Most of the stuff he writes is well worth reading, even if I don't always agree with his viewpoint. He certainly is right on target here.

Eventually, the fake hate crime creators are going to ruin things for the occasional victim of a genuine hate crime.

Funny we haven’t heard a peep about the contents of the security videos from the hallway of the noose-on-door professor at Columbia. The ones that Columbia originally refused to turn over to police, but finally did right before getting served with a subpoena for them. The silence is deafening.

Is this the only recent one that has been determined to be a hoax? What about the ones at Columbia?

We need to repeal the Hate Crime laws. It is impossible to prove and is a law against thought or emotion.

Locally, theater stage hands were fired for making the standard slip knot that held the surplus rope that controlled the curtains. Looked like a noose.

People have to be sure to arrange wires, strings and cables so they don't give the vague appearance of a noose. Political correct is at a new level. Its called politically stupid. As long as our leaders, judges, and employers remain spineless, we are going to have to live with it. The people that whine and complain about the petty issues are not about correction perceived wrongs, They seek advantage.

I don’t believe in the concept of hate crimes. However, since they are on the books, I belive that anyone who fakes a hate crime has committed a hate crime. They are trying to falsely make it out that there are people in their environment that hate them and have done this to them. They are trying to falsely make it appear there are racists/bigots etc that exist in their community and have singled out that (phony) person, to make a problem where none exists. To foment tension between people because of a made-up incident that is done to draw attention to the faker as being a victim of people who ‘hate’ them. If you want to be liberal about it, it is a reverse hate crime. They are projecting their stereotyped hate about the groups they think are against them, into their own actions.

They are committing crimes by doing this. First they damage or destroy their own property. They lie to police and other authorities. If an innocent person actually gets fingered in this mess by being targeted as a suspect, there are crimes being committed against that person. Further this lie impacts the community by potentially stirring up conflict where the incident being focused on was totally manufactured and bogus.

They are attention whores. They are the ultimate self-absorbed, ‘pay attention to me’, the ‘look at me I’m a victim’ (and possibly Oprah’s next guest unless the scam unravels).

They ought to be prosecuted as tough as people who commit these fallatial ‘hate crimes’, as long as we have ‘hate crimes’ on the books. If I could wish they were gone today I’d wish it, maybe one day we’ll get bad law off the books.

It’s not like folks around DC don’t know the nature of GWU. It’s like this ~ no way the place can be overrun by Nazis or KKK types ~ just can’t.

From Ann Coulter's article last month:

Out of legions, here are just a few hoax hate crimes on college campuses.

-- In 1997, at Duke University, a black doll was found hanging by a noose from a tree at the precise spot where the Black Student Alliance was to be holding a rally against racism. Two black students later admitted they were the culprits and were immediately praised for bringing attention to the problem of racism on campus. Indeed, four years later the president of Duke gave a baccalaureate address nostalgically describing the hoax as a "protest" against racism. Next stop: the Nobel Peace Prize.

-- In 2003, vile racial epithets were scrawled on the dorm room doors at Ole Miss, producing mass protests and a "Say No to Racism" march. And then it turned out the graffiti had been written by black students, against whom no charges were brought. A "Say Yes to Racism" rally at Ole Miss was later canceled due to lack of interest.

-- In 2005, obscenity-laced racist and anti-Semitic messages appeared on dormitory walls at the College of Wooster in Ohio. The fliers were instantly blamed on "typical white males," even though all the letter I's in the epithets were dotted with little hearts. Breadcrumbs left by the culprits included the message "Vote Goldwater" among the obscenities. The matter was dropped and flushed down the memory hole when the perpetrators turned out to be a group of leftist students led by a black studies major.

-- Just this year, anti-Muslim fliers were put out on the George Washington University campus -- by leftists, including a member of "Iraq Veterans Against War." When it was thought the leaflets were from the conservative group Young Americans For Freedom, the dean called for the expulsion of the culprits and the university demanded that YAF officers sign a statement disavowing "hate speech." But when it turned out leftists had distributed the fliers, the matter was dropped faster than Larry Craig was dropped from Mitt Romney's campaign.

Claremont Hate Crime Called Hoax
LA Times ^ (FR thread) | March 17. 2004 | Joy Buchanan, Kristina Sauerwein and Stuart Silverstein

A week after a reported campus hate crime drew national attention, sparked protests and shut down the prestigious Claremont Colleges, police on Wednesday called the incident a hoax staged by a professor who slashed tires, shattered windows and spray-painted racist graffiti on her own car.

Claremont McKenna College psychology professor Kerri Dunn, who had told police that her car was vandalized as she spoke at a March 9 forum on racism, was identified by two eyewitnesses as the person who damaged the auto, authorities said Wednesday.

She was not arrested, but Claremont Police Lt. Stan Van Horn said the case would be sent to the Los Angeles County district attorney for review and that the likely charge would be filing a false police report, a misdemeanor. The FBI said she might face more serious felony charges of lying to federal investigators.

Campus leaders last week had condemned the vandalism as a hate crime, shut down the Claremont consortium of colleges for a day of anti-hate rallies and called in FBI investigators. The police contention that Dunn staged the incident triggered a wave of anger against her Wednesday and fears that students would become cynical about racism.
