I'm guessing that Miriam's ex is one of those rare moderate Muslims we read about. He had the decency to leave her alone to raise her daughter-- a far, far better fate than ending up dead.
She doesn't know how lucky she is. Isn't it funny how women are supposed to be smarter than men, yet they disproportionately end up with dangerous men?
