“A-Rod a no-show
Alex Rodriguez obviously has plenty on his plate now that he’s opted out of his contract with the Yankees, but it would’ve been nice for him to attend last night’s ceremony for winning the Hank Aaron award.
Yes, this is partly a selfish lament; the media would’ve loved to ask A-Rod about his decision. But also, all honored players should pay their respects, in person, to the great Aaron.
A-Rod also won the Players Association’s Players Choice Outstanding Player award. I guess A-Rod’s fellow players don’t hate him that much, after all. There’s a five-part series on the Players Association’s awards, at http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/awards/pa.
Extra bases
The Rangers’ Tom Hicks isn’t the only opposing owner monitoring the Yankees this offseason. If the Yankees hire Joe Girardi as their manager, they’ll relieve the Marlins of roughly a $750,000 obligation to Girardi for 2008.”
I haven’t the slightest idea WHY Joe Girardi would want to work for the zoo that is the N.Y. Yankees under the Steinbreners.
But hey, some folks are in to self abuse.
